I have been an ABBA fan since way when it was so uncool to love them. ABBA’s music kept me going through a difficult time in my life. I have never tired of listening to their music. Not ever. Especially Knowing Me, Knowing You. Incredible artistry at work in that song. Voyage is a masterpiece. I’ll admit that it took a few listens to get used to some of the more subdued elements. Yet the nods to other songs they’d made simply bring back a gentle nostalgia for me. The best thing about these songs is that they ARE ABBA-and nothing else. The voices of the girls are stunning here, although I do wish they could have belted out some of those rich third voices a little more here and there…but that’s me just wanting them to sound a little younger! The variety of melodies and styles are beautifully paced. Keep An Eye on Dan and Ode to Freedom are my highlights [for now]. The closing track begs to be longer with a roaring crescendo yet this song sums the band up beautifully. That song made me cry. I am thoroughly satisfied as a long term ABBA fan and highly recommend this album to be labeled a MASTERPIECE.
