I've always enjoyed watching Animal House, but what I find interesting is the difference in how school life in general is depicted during 1962 between Animal House (college, fall of '62) and American Grafitti (high school, summer of '62). I would guess what makes the difference is AH seems to be more midwest or northeast U.S. where AG is obviously west coast USA. Landis and Lucas really separated the two societies despite the same era of time. Floyd Mutrux really took it to a different level in his 1965 (Halloween night) era movie The Hollywood Knights set in the Hollywood, California area. What separates the films even more is the noticeable differences in the music soundtracks used. Even in "House" and "Grafitti" the list of tunes differs greatly despite being set in the same year. By '65, the sound of rock had changed dramatically due to the "British Invasion" door being opened by the '64 introduction of The Beatles. Also interesting to note that "Grafitti" was released in 1973, where "House" was released in 1978. Mutrux's "Knights" was released in 1980.
