All of the 1 star reviews are from people who have read the original novel version of the film. Well I haven't read the book and this is what I think of the film. The lead characters had no chemistry. For once i thought if they're giving it a dull angle to set the tone to the alternate happy ending for Anne with the other guy. The lead couple talk mostly in melancholy throughout film that, the scenes they have in the hills with love and cuddling seem too forced and unnatural. The time period isn't crisply captured. Frames seem to keep oscillating between the current times and older times. Also every character having a happy ending seems a little too much even for a romance drama genre. Although i agree that if that's what's in the book they sure will mostly retain the plot that way. On the other hand the background score, vocals, scenery and acting make it worthy of a single star.
