Alexis Houides

I’m a huge Studio Ghibli fan. I’ve loved practically all of his films from Spirited Away, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, Ki Ki’s delivery service, etc…. But this film did not hit home for me at all. The visuals as usual were fantastic but I felt like the story was lacking/confusing. I didn’t feel emotionally attached to any of the characters which is a first for me in these films, and the plot and ending of the story are very confusing to me as far as what the message was supposed to be. I did research later to figure out the point of the film(which I’ve never had to do before). Overall despite the chaos I was hoping for and received I was bored for nearly the entire film, didn’t feel moved, and was left very stumped…A bit of a let down considering this will be the creators last(or one of the last) films. I still love all the other works of art this studio has produced, but this was just not it for me. Some others may enjoy it, but I think that it will be minimal. And do to the even amount of boredom and creepy imagery every once and a while I’d also not recommend this film for young children.
