The documentation of written accounts of linguistic features of the language of African Americans and it's history in pre-colonial American was informative and instill greater pride in my African roots. Also, for a study of African retentions in African American language read, "Africanisms in the Gullah Dialect" by Lorenzo Turner, America's first African American linguist. This work was first published in 1949, later in 1974 and recently in 2002. These books debunk the false narrative that has been has been circulated in schools, textbooks, in the media, and local, state and global communities
