Don’t bother. 45 minutes too long and not a patch on The Man Who Never Was.
I have read both books about this amazing true story and was left totally deflated by this film. Instead of focussing on the amazing work of Montagu and Cholmondley it concocts a love triangle as it’s focus. Also, although Ian Fleming was involved on the periphery we suddenly have Q Branch and a Bond gadget with a buzz saw watch; neither of which existed. Also, a part where two British officers salute without their caps on? Historically and factually wrong.
Great cast. Not sure what Colin Firth has done to his teeth! And the swearing, doubt that is in keeping with the time period or the background of the lead characters either.
Read Ben Macintyre’s great book then watch The Man Who Never Was for a more palatable and less painful version.
