Personally, I do not understand the criticism the movie is getting, I think it does a lot of things bad, but you need to realize it's not trying to do these things good. SHOULD it try to do those things good; is a completely separate question altogether. The question we are asking is: "Was the movie enjoyable?" As someone who loves movies like Interstellar, and Oppenheimer, but also loves the UFC, and the sport of fighting as a whole, I fail to see where the movie is missing the mark with critics.
It's as if the people criticizing the movie are expecting NASCAR when the movie is about Bass Fishing, it makes no sense to me. I don't think it's a perfect movie at all, in fact I think it's far from it, I think movies like "Nobody" are far better executed, in terms of pacing, plot, and timing with jokes. I believe this is a problem with movie critics altogether, they believe all movies are supposed to fit this single template of "What makes a good movie" when in reality it's far more relaitve, there is certainlly a list of inamendable traits, but there there is much more you can change within a movie to make it fit the style that is trying to be captured, and this is why the critics have such a low rating of the movie yet the Google user reviews are currently at 86%.
I'm someone who can simultaneously critique a movie while also enjoying it. I noticed a lot of problems with the movie but I let them pass because, at the end of the day, it is a movie about bar fights, cheesy jokes, unrealistic situations, and action scenes with a strong degree of unseriousness to them, not something I would consider having the best plot and writing.
I think the fight scenes were very entertaining and very well choreographed, Conor was most definitely the more enjoyable and entertaining character and did a good job of embracing himself into well... a more exaggerated version of himself. The line delivery was good and left some very hilarious moments.
Fundamentally the movie is meant to be a party, even the director said this, something you will watch with the boys on vacation, or on the couch drinking some beers on the weekend. It's not meant to be interstellar where you need a tremendous amount of prior knowledge to understand. I would highly recommend people rewatch this and reshape their expectations.
