JESSICA CHASTAIN carries this drama with her meticulous , character performance . The story is a " slow boiling " of events and the psychological emotional arch , mostly perfectly portrayed by Chastain . I watched her VERY FACIAL & physical reactions to the series of growing tension. Her eyes , her mouth twitches , her throw away gazes . SERIOUSLY, watch her alone and she is truly OSCAR PERFORMANCE . Yes , it took time and MANY SHOW impatience , but it was needed for the character arch INTO ALMOST insanity. Chastain never fails. Talent.

Haven't enjoyed a good thriller in a while and this German film , just delivered a really great suspenful story line . With cyber hacking attacks being increasingly more common these days , this subject touches on today's dark web, foreign hacks and attacks on all levels of unsafe electronic sites at all levels of our commercial , financial , government , personal and even our intelligence levels.

I went into this movie knowing that the crowds at CANNES jeered & booed it. Social warrior , humanitarian , activist SEAN PENN didn't stray from his personal passions. That being said , yes , it was a touring advertisement for AFRICAN atrocities , war , killings , etc. Add refugee camps , food & medicines shortages, etc. AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE CONSTANT USE OF SMALL , YOUNG AFRICAN CHILDREN IN CONSTANT PERIL OR MURDERED . But I still found the lead characters story compelling , although it felt , totally out of place . Like putting two separate movies together . BUT THE CRAZY LOVE STORY HELD YOU TO WITNESS THE FINAL RESULT OF THEIR EMOTIONAL BATTLE .

RECENTLY WATCHED " KATE " ON NETFLIX AND WAS BLOWN AWAY. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE 4K UHD DISC TO COME OUT. SO , forget about all the others you've seen : ATOMIC BLOND , AVA , ANNA , RED SPARROW , ETC. There's a new Female John Wick in town. MARY ELIZABETH WEINSTEAD leads the pack. She totally owned the icon female assassin crown. She would make the perfect John Wick bride. KILL BILL , KIDDO , JUST PASSED THE BATTON.

Like everyone else who reviewed this movie , I too went through the pain , without the morphine . Lol. The project was probably funded on the strength of the director who was a stuntman and mostly a second director on several top action movies 🎥. But his credibility will be suspect due to several movie blunders : storyline , long overly drawn out scenes (desert bikes / ATV ) , extremely boring long speeches by the Supreme leader of pointless message oversell , you almost want to shoot yourself to end the boredom chatter. Acting skills are mediocre , at best. The Russian sniper girl was probably best , aside from the Hollywood Russian accent. Remember , this is part 2 of a trilogy. The contract for all 3 films was signed without " proof of life ". LMAO.

I loved this movie . There are several fantastic Spanish movies on Netflix and that is where I found this gem. After that I searched for more to my full enjoyment. I'm a long time huge movie watcher and have seen more than most , so I can easily compare quality of screenplay , cinematography , music , action pacing , use of scenery, etc. Anyway , I loved this movie , seen it twice since I'll be watching the two sequels . Legacy of the Bones and OFFERING TO THE STORM. If the sequels are as great as PART 1 of the BAZTAN TRILOGY , I'll be super happy . Others have posted the common elements they loved and I fully agree. FOREST WITH RAIN PUTS YOU IN A VAST ISOLATED DARK MYSTERIOUS WORLD . Great mystery .

Liked this movie . Had read the comparisons to THE CONJURING & ANNABELLE movies. Yes , basic plot similarities , although THE DOLL TRILOGY takes a more modern , wealthy settings approach. By nature , Asian versions of ghosts or the familiar , " crawling long black haired very pale looking young girl " always has a creepy feel & look. Very creepy . It's become the template for scary images. I liked THE DOLL and am watching THE DOLL 2 . They have a story with the frequent jump scares every 5 minutes , so it keeps the tension going for what may come next . I'D rate the scares at about a 3.5 of 5. It's the overall story and escalating scares that add up. Yes , there's also a spirit medium who helps others fight the evil spirit . YES. YOU WILL LIKE THE MOVIES .
