The Emmas thoroughly and unrecognizably become their wicked characters with a refreshing and never before seen backstory to the 101 canon. Furthermore, I think this role really solidified Stone's mastery of her craft. As a whole, there are a few confusing moments that require the audience to question or suspend their belief, but for the most part this movie is superbly entertaining that features ample moments for each character to shine.

When I watched the accompanying Netflix special after this movie, it made me appreciate this powerhouse of a movie even more. With an exclamation mark, it shows the huge difference between a movie that is made for mass consumption and a delectable movie where the actors, actresses and creative artists fully and passionately pour every ounce of their soul into the project. Villa Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Colman Domingo and Glynn Turman completely transform into their multi-layered characters who give us such an intimate look into 1920's America. Everyone should watch this important. movie to get a greater understanding of what people of color go through and why every one of their actions matter to them.
