A self-indulgent, self-conscious waste of time. This movie spends so much time trying to look interesting and avant garde, you never get to know ANY of these characters, so you never really care. Yes, you're SUPPOSED to care, but you can't because the constant distracting dance between flashbacks, dreams (??), and present day never allows you to KNOW anyone. All of the characters are caricatures. The Frustrated Mom. The Troubled Kid. The Clueless Dad. The Angelic Daughter. Everything about this film was frustratingly two-dimensional, like a bad painting by a self-impressed "artist." I found myself constantly wondering why in the world these people were behaving so unbelievably stupidly. For such an important topic, such a multi-faceted, complex issue, it was like a political science treatise written by a 9-year-old. Sprinkle this offal with a soundtrack that, truly, was just sadistic in its awfulness, and you've got just a complete mess. It's like hot garbage, where the only value to the thing is that the stench is so foul that you're impelled to gather others so that you may all wonder at the reek.
This is just a bad, ugly film.
