There's a Deeper Complexity Under the Surface of the Writing. Very well-written and interesting, the author meanders through a number of touchstone life experiences, sharing inspiring thoughts gleaned from retrospection. There's a story lurking under the surface that's sometimes visible without being fully explored, but it's probably very significant in the grand scheme. That's the relationship the author had with his father which I interpolated as very significant in shaping Chauncey's earlier outlooks and attitudes he later found a need to address and correct.
