I thought this movie was just Disney's way of showing off how good their animation is, instead of showcasing their story writing. The design of the dragon screamed to me, "Look at our marketable characters that children totally like!" instead of anything creative. There were too many characters introduced to the audience in one movie, which made for some pretty forgettable storytelling. Another thing is that the ethnicities and cultures showed in the movie did not resonate at all with me. As someone's whose heritage is from the pacific islands and East Asia, I found it hard to identify with the different groups of people shown in the story. You can't just put a black person in some Indian garments and call it "culturally progressive". Unless you expand on those cultures in the story, you make for some very confusing racial representation in movies.
