First of all, I’m a huge fan of Gabriel Sherman‘s writing. I believe I read, “The Loudest Voice in the Room” pretty much in one sitting.
The movie is very well made, directed and beautifully shot in a depressingly dark way. The performances are absolutely stellar. If Jeremy Strong doesn’t win an Oscar for his Roy Cohn I’ll be very surprised. Sebastian Stan is great as Trump, and Maria Bakalova plays a surprisingly sympathetic Ivana.
Overall, for me, however, there wasn’t a lot. I didn’t already know about Trump. But, seeing what I knew dramatized so well made the movie well worth seeing in the theater. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is I found it just a tad slow getting started. But, my biggest complaint is that I found the music score distracting in spots with its heavy handedness. It was just too dramatic and dirge-like in spots. The movie didn’t need that. The writing, directing and acting would have been more than enough.
