Why movies are made. I just finished the book and found some of the fundamental changes both in cast and story somewhat lacking. I won’t go into the facial scarring on Hester, or lack thereof. The extra layer of characters and storyline would have made the movie more engaging, of course, the timing would have been long, but it is Peter Jackson, after all. I agree with some of the critics that we tend to forget to allow something new sweep us up, look for familiar trappings, something we can compare this to. That is what I liked about both the book and the movie, that is was proposing a new world to get swept up in, gorgeous visuals, action and adventure.
