Reading some of the other reviews I was shocked at the number of poor and shallow reviews. I guess, coming from the older generation, I was born just as WW11 started, I naturally have a more sympathetic view of those times. The film starts with most of Churchills war cabinet trying to convince him to sue for peace with the Germans. This actually happened and thank God that he was stubborn enough to decide on another course of action. Otherwise we would all be speaking German by now and my family would be dead, thats for sure. I liked this film, great boy's own stuff with some great characters, mostly very British and speaking as the British did in those now far off days, again lost on many of the reviewers of a certain age i'm afraid. The thinking behind this operation, which actually happened, was extraordinary but simple really, stop the U boats destroying the Atlantic convoys and we can win the war. Typical Churchill. And so that is how the film pans out with what I thought was some terrific scenes and Germans dying by the score - good. Great Richie stuff and most enjoyable, I have just told my wife about it (i watched in the middle of the night) and now she wants to watch it as well, excellent, that means I get to see it twice, first class Old Boy!
