Considering the mess that J.J. Abrams had to fix, I find that the movie does its best and it results in something that is just okay. Pretty to look at, and but just okay. Relies way too much on the original trilogy to point where the movie is just farming nostalgia. Half of the characters we had felt like cameos. Pacing was way too fast. It felt like Abrams was trying to retcon The Last Jedi, squeeze in his own second movie, and do this one as well. The amount of stuff going on was overwhelming. I really wish there were more quiet moments between characters where we could see them interact and get to know them better, but Abrams wants us to step it up; we got 2 and half movies worth of plot to get through. I'm also a little upset that Palpatine was just thrown into the mix without any real setup, but I suppose that is just a symptom of the real problem here.
Maybe if Abrams had had a chance to do his thing with the second movie, or if we stuck with Rian Johnson, we probably could have had a good movie.
