A wonderous piece of original cinema. All 3 primary cast members really exmplified the art of great acting spurred on by a script that was tighter than the skin on an ancient drum as the Director was unrelenting with the shocks and thrills. I really loved this, and like many walked out with a big smile on my face as it was the epitome of originality and fearless film making. Although there are obvious elements that were derivative this only enhanced the journey into absolute insanity of no return. This will get an Oscar nod for Moore and Quaid. This film was their finest hour. The make up and special effects was a welcome relief from monotonous CGI as opposed to pure artistry also Oscar worthy. Drop everything and see this now. Like Longlegs I really think we are seeing a renaissance of original horror/ thriller films by new Directors who are relentless in the passsion of their work. For Kubrick fans look out for the 'Shining' motifs in this piece eg; the studio hallway, the red bathroom and of course all that blood!

This is a very impressive effort by Maika Monroe and Nicholas Cage. It is tightly scripted and there are very few water cooler questions that arise. Monroe is really something in this film and her command of her agitated troubled character drives the horror. Cage is nowhere to be seen which is a refreshing move for him as he is in disguise with excellent make up which is at Oscar standard. His creepy voice and concerning moves show a liberated actor free to go to another level which he does. Like 'Smile' this is an actor's film. The acting is terrifying and deeply disturbing as the audience reels from Monroe's fear and is mesmerised by Cage's creature. Perkins works with, not against, the actors who really take this film to places no one dares to venture. Scored adventurously with supports who fill the gaps to keep you talking to the screen. Very enjoyable. David B.
