A very mixed bag. I've never read the books and couldn't care less about the source material, but the series lacks tension, scale and acting of the requisite gravitas to overcome the many shortfalls elsewhere. There seems to be a good storyline under there somewhere, but rather than a clash between ancient kingdoms, it's more like 3 or 4 villages squabbling between themselves. The series stumbles between unbelievable plot lines, unconvincing performances, underdeveloped characters or just plain weird casting choices (particularly where actors have been paired into a relationship-based sub plot and neither party seems remotely suited to the other).
