Personally, from a scale of 0-10 I think I would give it a 7.5/10. All the actors were great besides the occasional wooden acting from C Thomas Howell as Pony, The plot was good, and the ideas were amazing. There are a lot of problems though like how this movie almost completely copies the book, Ralph Macchio not really fitting the description of the quiet and shy Johnny by screaming all the time, and some bizarre editing which you could argue is because it had a budget of 10 million dollars plus it was made in 1983 but some movies before that have even less of a budget and still were edited beautifully. Take Psycho for example, Psycho was made in 1960 with a budget of only 806,000 thousand dollars and was editing and cut together with a lot of grace. However, The Outsiders is still a fun movie that if you turn your overly critical brain off you can still enjoy. The cast was almost perfect with Patrick Swayze and Matt Dillon being highlights as Darry and Dally. I had a lot of fun with this film but it would have been even better if it just had maybe another month or two in production.
