I read it twice and it read better the second time around. The way the coach helped his players develop into strong humans shows it was not just a game for him. It showed how stardom can changes a person like it did Neely Crenshaw. It also shows a fallen star’s sad life. He dropped his true love when he was blinded by his own stardom. Now he has retuned to apologize to her, only she does not want to talk about it.
The good natured banter among the former teammates makes one feel part of the group.
Very well written as Grisham always does.
