Overrated. Had high expectations and the book just left me ???
I'm sorry about this but
- writing was bland, uncreative, predictable. Typical YA/NA approach. Bruh, I felt like reading The Princess Diaries all over again (just with the domestic abuse). There was a total disconnect to what the story was trying to tell
- characters were, oh my god, bland. The writing is just... tired and repititive, and just uncreative.
- plot was okay, story dragged on at first, like literally half of it was unnecessary.
- I hated Lily's pov. It was just bad, man. Her pov made this all horrible
- and their conversations. Can't count how many times I rolled my eyes. They're very typical and felt like they were written to produce some kind of reactions from the readers. Felt like there was no authenticity from this book at all. Like I said--uncreative.
- it talks about domestic abuse but the pov is weird. There is no depth nor emphasis on the emotional and mental state of the character which I think would help the readers into internalizing what the character is going through. The pov was just a highschool kid talking. And the events later in the story just didn't give any justice. Like the domestic abuse plot was just a piece of garnish on the story, I thought I was gonna dive deep into it and go over the rollercoaster of emotions and thoughts of being a victim by a loved one. Just left me with ???
- this book came off pretentious, forced, inauthentic. And goodness! Lazy, horrible writing. this felt like 8 pieces of cereal floating in diluted milk, with a bit of condensed milk at the bottom of the bowl that is waiting to be stirred (I know it's weird but that's how I visualized it). I'm so sorry. My first CoHo book, and might be my last. Sorry.
- also! Who's a neurosurgeon at 30?? Seriously?!
