I only gave it 3 stars because I did not see the ending coming, but it was pretty overdrawn overall. Had the ending not have been a shocker, I would have given it 2. I struggle with the idea that she never fully addresses her trauma/abuse of her kidnappers and glorifies them because these people literally were mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive and at no point does the author address or acknowledge this. Also the fact she does not really reflect on her bio father at all frustrates me because truly he seems better than Maggie (psychotic abuser) and John (the pervert) who kidnapped her, yet she was fine just totally leaving him in the dust without any explanation/closure, and as a parent myself, I cannot imagine the turmoil of losing a child in such a manner with no answers. She digs herself into unnecessary and unrealistic/unbelievable holes throughout that make you very doubtful and it honestly become more frustrating than intriguing with her lies to the investigative police simply trying to help her because she could easily tell them truthf information that could assist them in their investigation, but for ridiculous reasons she chooses to keep a lot of information to herself that basically incriminates her. All around this just could have been written more realistically, but then again I guess it’s fiction and some people enjoy the unrealisticness of it all.
