I’m just reading these comments and SMH. People are actually criticizing the actors for playing the roles they were given. Either it’s them by nature or the pandemic have folks hallucinating. After reading several criticism that Daphne acted privileged and played victim after forcing Simon to marry her, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Then there is the criticism that the show is attempting to whitewash the racial make up of British aristocracy at that time and that it is not a true reflection of history. Well I should hope not! Anyone looking to art to validate history is barking up the wrong tree. Like the Julia Quinn novels, the characters are fictitious though the period of time actually existed.
The beauty about this show is that it’s presented with a twist. Highly simplified, but it’s like a chef coming up with his own twist on a macaroni and cheese dish. That’s what art is, it’s not intended to be a perfect rendition of history or anything for that matter. The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
I’ll wait for these harsh critics to put out their own show or even star in a film. I can’t wait to be their critic lol.
