In a stoic sense, I believe it's peak modern cinema, because I was allowed to not be an escapist. There's a saying of "life imitates art" by Oscar Wilde. With this revisionist view of the Joker story, I believe it is to be the opposite. With Joker: Folly of Two, life refrains art. We are motivated to reject the reality portrayed on the screen by bettering our own lives, and the perception we give to the world. It reminds me of how horrible rumors of Jesus being the illegitimate son of Pandera, or that he died on the cross without resurrection, was countered by popular religious movements like Christianity and Islam. Personally, I think people could counter the disappointment by being creative and making their own Joker-inspired literature or something.
