Overall I think the movie was very good but there were some very obvious miscastings in my opinion. The most annoying one was Timothée Chalamet as Laurie. He looked like a little boy compared to Amy, the sister he ended up marrying. In fact he looked far too young and immature for all of the sisters. The other annoying miscasting was Florence Pugh who actually played Amy. She looked nothing like her sisters and appeared much older than them. In the book she is the youngest sister.
There were some largely irrelevant characters in the movie, in particular the girls' Father and Hannah the housekeeper. The father's script was particularly trite and he was largely irrelevant to the story. I wondered when watching the film whether this was a choice made by the director, Greta Gerwig. It looked to me as though Bob Odenkirk felt very uncomfortable acting this role. The film would have been more powerful had he not appeared at all.
