I am shocked that many people don't know "Ranga Marthanda" is a remake of Mahesh Manjrekar's award-winning Marathi directorial "Natsamrat". Nana Patekar was exceptional in character. Natsamrat is very lengthy and is slow-burn. Ranga Marthanda, on the other hand, had several flaws in it:
1. It had no soul in the movie compared to the original. Several Telugu movies are remakes of others; for some odd reason, they leave the essence behind and show off.
2. Every actor was overacting in the movie, keeping the audience away from reality and the hard facts one should face.
3. It only relied on the actor's performance, which disturbed the screenplay. The story was abrupt and had no meaning.
4. Show-off was at a peak level: Teachers punishing students for reciting a Telugu poem and being classed by Prakash Raj, degrading Shakespeare to show off Indian greatness etc.
5. In order to minimize the runtime, the story was cut short and ended abruptly making the movie soulless and senseless.
My suggestion is "Please watch the original masterpiece". If you liked Ranga Marthanda, Natsamrat will make you cry for sure.
Please don't put on the South/North debate, I'm from Andhra, but I have good taste when it comes to movies. Please develop good taste, it will make an impact in Telugu movie making.
