"i am sam?" More like "I am scared." I watched “I Am Sam” hoping for a heartwarming story about a father and his daughter, but I was deeply disappointed and disturbed by what I saw. The movie portrays Sam Dawson, a man with an intellectual disability (his mental capacity is that of a 7-year-old according to the film), as a helpless victim of a cruel system that tries to take away his daughter, Lucy. The movie also shows Sam’s frequent outbursts and meltdowns, which triggered my own anxiety and sensory overload as an autistic person. The movie was a nightmare that left me shaken and terrified. I give it 1 star – for shaking my psyche with what is frankly a horror show for me. 😱😰
