Just straight up bad writing. That’s it. The writing is pathetic and the main character is pathetic. I do not understand the recent Marvel obsession with making Kamala Khan the specialist girl in the entire universe. She was supposed to be a relatable teenage hero, I actually liked her first comics. But now they keep shoving her in the spotlight and literally throwing her back in time to point at her and go ‘see guys, see! She’s the specialist coolest most important person ever!!!!’ Kamala as a teenage superhero doing her best in the apocalypse, I would’ve enjoyed that. Instead we get a character whose combat skills are shown to be so great when in reality it is appallingly mediocre, who makes stupid jokes and whines all the time only to be gassed by the big league superheroes about how great she is. And somehow being needed for the ridiculously overpowered Wanda to take the cosmic energies from a nerfed Infinity Hulk? How and why? I would’ve loved a show with multiple main characters all trying to make it work with a Kamala Khan more in line with her original writing being one of them trying to save the world, and I wouldn’t have minded for that version of Kamala to be the main character. Sometimes writers do this thing where they love their character and gas them up to infinity and continuously scale up their powers and abilities and shove them in everyone else’s spotlights to show us they’re the specialist person ever. At that point that character is no longer even a person but a vague idea and a hell of a lot of wish fulfillment and self-insertion (and bad writing). Asohka Tano and Izuku Midoriya are good examples of this, and now so is Kamala Khan.

If you don’t care about the book this is based on, watch it. It’s an entertaining movie except the second half is a bit slow. For a zombie movie, it’s one of the more unique ones. The zombies are unique, though to be fair cordyceps as the zombie plague has been done to death (pun intended). And the special effects are amazing, realistic and creepy, it’s great. If you do care about the book I’d only watch it if you don’t care about them turning Melanie into a psychopath, turning Ms. Justineau white, and cherry-picking and limiting the chapters to the point the original story is barely told. They’ve also made things worse in general, probably just for the drama and violence. Pretty cheap if you ask me. Overall I’m giving this 2 stars because it’s just another action/violence zombie apocalypse movie with a modicum of sloppy plot diced in. The kid was very good at acting like a kid. Acting like a highly intelligent fungal/human symbiote? Not so much.

I gave this two stars instead of one because if you don't care about the lore or an actual cohesive plot and just want to watch a movie with a lot of action then this will be a good movie for you, just watch out for some slow parts. Otherwise? Wow, what a shitstorm. The plot is lowkey a disaster. *So* many plotholes, so many things that simply don't make sense. Firstly Jonathan Kent's character is just...Bad. It's just Bad. Jonathan Kent would never tell Clark he should just let people die to stay in hiding, and he would never make him just stand there and watch him die a meaningless death to prove a point. (Also, that scene with the tornado is BS, tornadoes do *not* work like that) Then, for whatever reason, they decided to change the source of Superman's powers, which has *always* been sunlight, to atmosphere. For...some reason or another. And even this is horribly executed. Apparently it's Earth's atmosphere that gives Kryptonians superpowers, yet multiple times Kryptonians who have never been exposed to Earth's atmosphere or are not currently exposed demonstrate superpowers, or are completely unaffected by it. This is just- there's no other way to describe it than just Bad Writing. Definitely not something I would've ever expected from such a beloved and popular source material. What a waste of potential.

Well, the best thing I can say about it is that it’s entertaining, but that’s about it. The different stories are neat, though in my opinion the third story (the one in black and white) is just a bit too similar to a specific Twilight Zone story for comfort. The ending leaves much to be desired, it feels unsatisfying and anticlimactic. I was hoping for something better.

I watched this movie for the first time years ago and it remains my favorite zombie movie of all time. The characters are compelling and relatable, the story has excellent timing and the social commentary and lessons shown along the way are beautifully done. The story is captivating, wonderful, and heartbreaking, and yet the ending still manages to give you hope. I 100% recommend watching this.

I was hoping for something better after the disappointment that was Warworld. Instead, we're delivered a storyline that is incredibly difficult for anyone who doesn't have knowledge of the crisis on infinite earths comics to follow. The story timing is all over the place, seeming to have some cohesion and consistency then suddenly slowing to a snail's pace or throwing what could be 15 minutes of story at you in just a handful. Not to mention the artstyle. If I wanted to watch something with such low-effort character designs I would've watched Archer, which the artstyle is obviously based off of. Overall a waste of time that I regret watching.
