I've already reviewed on IMBD and Rotten Tomatoes so it may sound familiar but here we go again. The adaptation is not perfect but it is an amazing translation that keeps the spirit of One Piece. It does a pretty good job of condensing an entire saga into 8 eps. We see our favourite characters, see what makes them who they are and fall in love with them.
The live action gives quite a bit of screentime to Garp, Koby and Helmeppo. I like that it adds intrigue to Luffy's past before the reveal of his family. There is also a LOT of easter eggs. We see things that are supposed to come in during later arcs, we also see a lot of things that are either mentioned in the cover stories or in the SBS that Oda answers. Below is a couple examples that may be a bit spoilery:
- We know Zoro hates chocolate the most from Oda's SBS but in the live action Rika gives him onigiri with chocolate powder and he eats it up after Helmeppo swishes it.
- Koby and Helmeppo's journey with Garp is now a side story in the live action
- Mentions of Baroque Works
- Zoro mentions the Funky Bar on Mirror Ball Island which we see in the cover stories with Jango
There are plenty more but I can't include them all or it's going to take a long time to write it all out
