I didn't like one piece for just the idea of pirates. I liked it for the attitude and stupidity of the characters and how they shaped the story.
Looking at the first few episodes of the netflix adaptation, I would say it's best to watch it as if it's a different show with its own characters and progression.
Though I didn't like how by just adjusting some minor details like Roger claiming that his treasure is awesome rather than the crowd mentioning it (example from the beginning of the show), they completely overwrote him into a tryhard to get back at the marines for being captured. or how Luffy suddenly became witty. I get they wanted it more like Hollywood, but it seemed to lose its authenticity
