I enjoyed all of it. The portrayal of the different worlds and languages. Young Paul passing through the doorway of no return. This film did a great job of setting the incredible scene for what’s to come. And that, in a way, is also its biggest weakness, namely that this film tells just the beginning of the story. There is no middle or end, just one long, incredibly awesome beginning.
I think that current film adaptions that split epic novels do it best when they provide more than just the first third of the book. I don’t think the story can be told properly as written with a 2-3 year break between movies. Maybe if there was resolution of several subplots (that were fleshed out more) then that would have felt more satisfying.
I would have preferred more screen time from some of the fantastic cast. I am looking forward to the next film but not the 2-3 year wait? Has it been green lighted? Maybe this would have been a better series adaption.
