Considering the special effects and art design of Star Wars trilogy which were predated to this movie, it is truly eye sore to watch. I can recall many sci fi movies made in 60s that are better than this. I don't care if the novels were good. This movie is a trash.

I watched this movie on it's releasing day in Sydney back in 2000 and watched again last night on SBS. I like it not because it's sophisticated plot and good acting but I like the sarcasm, betrayal and mind games between characters. Everyone tries to get leverage on each other and no one is trustworthy. John Travolta's acting is flawless of course. Plot is bit clumsy- man animals who lost track of own civilisation learns flying fighter jets etc. Overall it's not a bad sci fi movie, good enough for time killing.
