This series is too real. Tough to watch most of the times, yet handled so well that you do find yourself coming back to it.
The actors were phenomenal. Spoilers ahead.....
What was new was how nuanced the abusive husband's role was. He did abuse her emotionally but never laid a finger on her, was a good dad, kept trying to be better, had an understanding of how messed up he is, did want the best for his daughter, tried being sober and helped her out in tough situations.
His character throws light on how difficult it really is to identify what is abuse and what isn't, it gives us a perspective as viewers as to why most DV victims take so long to file a complaint, leave or do anything about it at all or why they come back even when they do leave.
It's a person you cared for, loved once and the depiction of how hope seems to show you a better future with that person, back just as you wished they would be, is very well done.
The portrayal of different women and their relationships,
Be it the rich lady who couldn't be happy inspite of all her money, the friend that keeps going back to her abuser, the main character and the love house couple just make it a well rounded show.
It does give you a valuable lesson as said by Regina, "The only thing you can rely on is your hard work. Everything else is fragile.".
