I want to start off by saying that it was a nice movie to kill time with. Nothing spectacular. Wasn't good and wasn't bad.
However, I do wish to point out a few things that made this movie a 2/5 for me:
1. Bad characters. The whole movie's plot happened because lots of people made lots of poor decisions. The blue haired girl Mika was the worst - turning off the tracker, luring the shark in the catacombs and inspecting the car. One of them got herself and others killed. The police weren't any better either - going to "find" a shark in 5m deep water...while they had a sonar in the boat WHICH they only used after they had put their people at risk. The mayor not believing the police and letting dozens of people be the shark's dinner was just a cherry on top.
2. The attitude. It felt like Sophia was going around telling everyone that she saw a unicorn or a Loch Ness monster in Seine. The mayor and the police acted like sharks are a rare sight and there was absolutely no way that one could be in Seine, while the mayor admitted knowing the presence of them in the Thames, London.
3. The shark's sizing. I felt like there was a bit of problem with that. It was said that the shark was around 7m in length and it did look huge next to a person. How could a 7m shark in the water not create movement in 5m deep water? The catacombs are also said to be pretty narrow. Especially the scene where Mika gets killed, the catacomb looked pretty small but allowed a shark this big to swim around freely. Maybe I'm just overanalysing.
4. Flood in the end. Specifically the ending. The whole city of Paris was flooded due to a few bombes? The bridges blowing up...makes more sense. If you Google the average depth of Seine you get 9.5m. Pretty deep but not really you know? How could a river overflow like that unless a hoover broke, which was not shown even if it did. And then the shark swimming in it - it gotta be a lot of damn water.
Overall an okay movie but the character's poor decisions are far from common sense or any kind of sense and it ruined the movie for me. But I did like that the movie brings some attention to marine life problems.
