The original film version + "Paths of Glory" + "Dunkirk" = this 2022 restatement that war is Hell and unleashed insanity. The cinemetography is bleak, beautiful and hypnotizing. The score is compelling. That there is not much character development seems intentional, if only to emphasize the impersonal - and repeated - carnage that accompanies the unleashed insanity. Sad and riveting.
