I enjoy the game quite a bit as a fighting game, but the game lacks in many areas such as puzzles and traps which previous Castlevania games including the Metroidvania games had. The game has an interesting story and interesting system of evolving your pokemon like pets called Innocent Devils, but it's just not a Castlevania game. It's enjoyable as a type of precursor to Dark Souls.

It's the first of two Castlevania Games from the era of the Sony Playstation 2, and arguably more in line with the Castlevania Games than Curse of Darkness, with Curse of Darkness being far more a fighting game which just happens to have characters associated with Castlevania. Lament of Innocence keeps the mechanical traps and puzzles which the previous Castlevania games had in the change to 3D. I can't wait for a remaster of the game!
