I’m finishing this novel mainly because I’m on waiting lists for other books. There is so much drivel and dithering— by the halfway point I was ready to quit every time the author had the main character thinking she “deserved” the misfortunes she encountered , or “didn’t deserve” kindness or good food. Between the author and editors I wish they could have been crisper. And the sixth sense thread is ignored for a year until it’s a convenient plot mechanism. The nuns are charicatures, the employers are cardboard cutouts. Everything is underdeveloped except the main character’s dithering. I’m going to turn up the speed on this audio book to finish, while running errands.
