The reviews I’ve read, so far, on this film, stems almost entirely on what a marvellous piece of work Kirsten Stewart’s portrait of Lady Diana Spencer is and whilst I can, to a certain extent agree, the rest of the film was absolute bilge. Of course, she is almost alone in having any lengthy lines but I have seen many actors speaking significantly less and won an Oscar (not that that should be an indication of a good film).
I am a lover of (non popular) jazz but I detested the music, the car she is driving, changes number plates in the initial scenes (continuity anyone?) and, as most of the dialogue is whispered (add to that, the accent of a British royal), I found myself missing half of what was said.
‘Diana’ is in absolute hysterics (albeit internally) most of the film and, unless this was the real case and if this was what *actually* happened, I sincerely do not think it was a necessary piece of work to make. I am not at *all* a royalist but, for heaven’s sake, she has children left on this earth.
I am sick and tired of people still releasing, and making money of, this human being. Yes, it’s an adaptation, yes it’s made up, yes is second-guessed and yes we will never know what really happened. So what? Let it be and move on. It seems that people will always haunt her and want a piece of her regardless of the fact that she was killed a little over 23 years ago. I find it incredibly crass.
I’ve given this two stars - one is for the scenery and one is for the costumes.
Also, do not, under *any* circumstances, go and see this film if you have and kind of an eating disorder. I do not, but thought I’d give that advice.
