Rediscovering this criminally underrated release. First heard it around 94-95 working in a record store and was completely floored by it's beauty. Blind is the quintessential album from The Sundays to me, having a more vulnerable, emotional weight to it. There are shifts between their punchy jangle pop catchiness to more complex moody melodies, with a flawless guitar work here, all wrapped around Harriet Wheelers beautiful vocals. Many of the tracks suggest a more personal direction in the writing and it has been at the top of one of my all time classic heartbreak albums. Beautifully layered guitar tones and you will be hard pressed to find a better vocalist than Harriet. Blind, released in 1992, appears to be a bit of a forgotten gem, and that is a tragedy as for me, it's The Sundays most beautifully recorded work. Sadly, it seemed to lack the mainstream attention of their first album, I think in part to Blind being a more emotionally complex record. Five years would pass until they returned with their final album, Static and Silence, a much more accessible, commercial, upbeat pop driven sound that wasn't as elaborately emotive as Blind. Then soon disappeared. I would love to see them return as I've heard they never stopped writing material. For me, 1992's Blind will always be considered as an absolute work of art in the Shoegaze/dreampop era along with other artists such as Slowdive and Cocteau Twins.
