I know Iron Heart isn't perfect, it doesn't claim to be. But the show touches on key points that we all can relate too. Its a story about grief and how we all deal with it in various ways, healthy and otherwise. It also discusses the topic of AI and it is disturbing but real. Often people discuss AI cutting jobs as the problem but few ever discuss the personal aspect of AI. How we as humans may use AI as an emotional crutch because talking with other humans seems to be too much of a risk. We have apps that you can use to find a virtual partner, and that needs to be discussed. The fact that we are moving towards a world where we would feel safer talking with a computer than another human being is terrifying. Or worse case scenario, using AI to imitate love, happiness, all to cure something we all experience, a crippling loneliness that seems impossible to escape. In this show it forces you to ask difficult questions. Would you bring back a loved one in digital form just to hear their voice and see there face as you remember them? That will get mixed responses which is the point. This story feels grounded more then most shows on television. Overall, I like how the show makes Riri feel relatable, yes she is a genius but she also suffers from panic attacks and tends to let grieve overwhelm her. Also it's important to note she is her own person. She is not iron man. And she doesn't claim to be. A lot of people want to belittle her character while acting as if Tony Stark was always a hero... he wasn't. He sold weapons of mass destruction and then realized how devastating it was when he got blasted with them. He learned and grew from his mistakes, something that Riri needs to do and will do. These heroes are not perfect, they are flawed and complex as it should be. I do wish the show had more episodes to really expand the world they created but they can build. People review bombed this show even before it came out and bigots took to the comments to let out their frustrations. They tried to take the narrative as they often do with anything that involves Black people. This show is special, after years of having everything marvel being a world ending threat it is nice to get down to a human level. Many of us have lost someone. Many have contemplated what we would do to get them back. Many of us have experienced some version of stress and anxiety and maybe even a panic attack or too (speaking from experience). And many of us contemplate AI and what it means for our future, this show brings those concepts and weaves them into the show. I think more superhero shows should do that. Overall. I enjoyed the show and I think you should just check it out yourself. Form your own thoughts, these are just mine.
