The first two books of North and South were phenomenal. Excellent story and character development for all of the characters. Everybody was so involved in each others stories which had each met satisfying conclusions. Book 3 however uproots so many of these plotlines even within the first couple minutes of the first episode. My advice, don't watch it. Book 2 has a grand enough ending. Also, George shaves his excellent beard so that's an immediate nope from me.
SPOILERS
Killing off Constance just so George can be with Madeline after they couldn't get Patrick Swayze to come back (so they just have him stabbed to death in the opening scene) is an absolutely abhorrent turn of events. It completely dumps on Orrie and Madeline's romance that had been built up for so long, and replacing it with a romance that had absolutely no ground throughout the first two books.
