The departure from the usual and always welcome eccentric inspector for an actor who is totally out of place in what was such an eagerly awaited series is totally beyond me. The office Gilly come lately who has taken over is so amateurish it grates. Only the Commissioner retains his wonderful persona and he is threatened with redundancy. Why oh why have the producers so altered the previously great format and wonderful actors. It’s all gone so dark and disastrous, Ben Miller must be in a state of shock as indeed must his successors except for this one. Sorry, but I’ve struggled through the first two episodes and just can’t bear to watch any more of this dreadful production. I so looked forward to it, sad very sad.
