About 50 years ago I was given a Mexican vaquero spur, silver inlaid, with silver disc on leather with the 4 card suits engraved bent and well worn, my friend told me his grandfather was one who killed Joaquin Murieta. I have been looking into the authenticity of it and as it appears from this novel that indeed Spurs were taken as spoils at his death. I will try to follow up with the Mariposa museum to see if there is a match. It is from that time , any input or help would be appreciated. I absolutely loved this novel as I know all the places and hide outs as I live in the Paso Robles area, growing up in the L A area played and hiked Vasquez Rocks, Tejon pass and fort Tejon, New Idria, Tres Pinos , The petroglifs in Ownes valley all places brought up in this magnificent rendering of his life really brought special meaning and enjoyment .
