Starts off strong them loses its way. The title is a kind of literary clickbait: the story is not mainly about the ratline but about the life and death of one man, Otto Wächter, a Nazi never brought to justice. Too many subplot lines that serve no useful purpose and make the book seem overly long and poorly edited in the second half. I've not read East West Street, so have no comparison point with that work. Prepare to be disappointed, this one ends with a whimper.
