I think Taylor herself said it well when she described this album as "Female Rage: The Musical."
Girl is mad, and lets everyone know. This album is not for children, nor does she have an obligation to write for children. She is grown up, and is writing about her adult experiences with men, the industry, mental health, and her fans.
It took me a bit to really appreciate the complexity, layers, and beauty of her lyrics. Lyrically it is one of her best albums, only topped by Folklore (in my opinion, and my personal favourite), but it won't be for everyone. And that's ok.
This album hits deep, and she has this way of describing her feelings that make you feel them. Beautiful album and it will grow on you.
