Georgette Heyer writes a very good mystery. I particularly liked this one. The cast of characters included a range of types from serious to zany. The story is complex enough to keep the reader guessing right until the very end. And there is humor to keep the story from being too morbid. The way it is written, it feels like the reader is a guest at the estate and is privy to all the conversations and events that unfold the story. Add in a Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Hemingway, who is clever and insightful, and you have a very satisfying page-turner.
