I want to talk about only the creative part of the Brahmastra movie because without it, however great the performances of actors, grandiose of VFX and multitude presence of stars becomes nullified.
I liked the premise of the movie - ancient astras and a cult protecting them and the existence of god of astras, the protectors and all.
I will now point out the major loops that you could have avoided in the movie.
1. You should have cool it with the songs. One song OK, two songs Acceptable but yet UNNECESSARY. Three songs you just lost your majority of audience right there - too much dramatic.
2. Our super heroes just could be killed with a bullet - that just kills the speciality of having superpowers. I felt it’s absurd.
3. You shouldn’t have killed the cameos that soon because the essence that they are dying to protect something that is more than their lives is lacking. You should have built it part by part, scene by scene and could have killed one of them and let the other one live. It would have made a great impact.
4. You stretched the power of love too thin. Saving the world or victory over evil should have become the soul of the movie as it progress. I couldn't feel that the protagonist has felt the necessity to protect the world from collapse, there is a bummer you see.
5. The most important ingredient for a story or a movie to work and to leave an impact, the antagonist should have some kind of backstory that could connect with the audience. It can be inferred through the actions of the villains but it doesn't made enough impact.
6. Movie felt like there is a lot of preaching and the repetition of same kind of phrases or synonyms. And that just made audience feel 'HUSH'
7. The final fight is absurd. They capture Guru, the students at one go and hero goes out and con the villain, you could have come up with a great sequence at the point of time. The VFX and choreography is good but the whole sequence failed.
8. The followers of Dev could be a lot more devoted and properly nunbered and they shouldn’t have to make a whole village into mind controlled mummies and the scene where the tree starts falling and no one moves until the other one shouts move aside….. They are controlled to find the ashram and fight the protagonists but not die in vain like a dummies…
Good VFX, Compelling performances and Great idea for making a Indian super hero movie which could have executed in a whole lot better way.
The movie fails to captivate the audience and build curiosity as it goes along. Expected a lot from Brahmastra yet it is a colossal disappointment.
