One of England/PBS 's finest police/mystery shows, whose lead detective is a multi-layered person who is not (can you believe it?) ADD, OCD, or insane. The show's premise is that she is a mature English woman of Indian heritage, devoted and good at her job, who is trapped in a culture of racism and hate that permeates her chosen profession and even endangers her life. She has her own personal problems, and daily has to juggle all these factors while trying to solve crimes that her superiors automatically label as "Indian" or "gang" -related, when they aren't. The show is gut-wrenching as you realize how insidiously this racism threatens to destroy people's lives. It adds a level of tension that most other detective shows lack. Cast is terrific, excellent directing and scripts. We're sad that season two is over, and are earnestly praying that another is on the way.
