I think the real issue in the movie is the acting, it didn’t deliver on the pulp novel vibe. The writing was actually pretty good and funny and followed the plot driven stories.l and the tropes of all the pulp novel characters were there. However, the acting did not provide the comedic relief that was necessary. I think Charlie Day was a good fit and his style was a perfect delivery, but the rest of the cast left the audience super confused. Even the lines that were written to get a laugh out loud fell short due to poor delivery. Cinematography was a 5 star.
