This is not just an example of a book being better than a film but a film that in my opinion harmed the book, which is much more profound and rich of meaning than the film. I'm glad I've read the book (despite having seen the film). The story beautifully illustrate the life of people in the Victorian age, the role of women and the opinion of the author on the British empire. Some paragraphs are mind blowing and it's thought provoking. To be read.
